RESPIRATOR FIT TESTING
We offer Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT) for full face and half mask respiratory protection. We will come to your business to perform the testing which normally requires 45 – 60 minutes to review care, use and selection as well as the fit testing. The care, use and selection portion is competed as a group to reduce overall time required to administer the QLFT.
A QLFT is a pass or fail test that determines if a respirator fits a wearer's face. It uses the wearer's senses of taste or smell to detect air leaks.
How it works
-
The wearer is given a test substance, such as a bitter-tasting chemical called Bitrex or a sweet-tasting chemical called saccharin.
-
The wearer performs a series of exercises, such as breathing, rotating their head, and bending over.
-
If the wearer tastes the test substance, the test fails.
Why it's important
-
A QLFT determines if the respirator is working properly.
-
It's a subjective test that relies on the wearer's feedback.
The QLFT method uses seven basic exercises:
-
Normal breathing.
-
Deep breathing.
-
Turning head side to side.
-
Moving head up and down.
-
Talking.
-
Bending over.
-
Normal breathing again.
